Life Quotes

" If you can't be a good example, maybe you can be a horrible warning."

This is a vintage photo of an old time cowgirl doing a trick called " Drunken ride." She is holding a beer bottle while performing this version of the roman stand. Please don't drink and ride.

An introduction to my dogs

"Luna" aka " Sweetie" & "Beauty Girl" My mom is the most important thing to me. I often wonder why she has those others here. I don't like dogs, they are so beneath me. I am very, very intelligent, but have no street smarts at all. I am a sweet, loyal gentle girl.

"Rascal" I come by my name honestly, and have alot of street smarts, which helped me survive, until I got to my home here. I am very loyal, and wish mom would carry me around with her like a baby all day.

"Pie" aka " Pie Wacky" & "Weather Dog" I can detect storms in the next county. I am a cranky dog, and now that I'm sixteen I'm even crankier. I have truly earned the name "Pie Wacky" but I am very sweet and mom also calls me "Sweetie Pie."

" 2-Bit" aka"Bitsy" I was dumped as a puppy with demodetic mange. I was a mess. With good care I recovered and am very happy and healthy. I love to chase ANYTHING, butterflies, wasps - if it moves, I'm on it ! I like to strut around when I have done something I think is cool. I would hunt bear, but there aren't any in these parts. I am too big for my britches, whatever that means.

" Tessa Rio" aka "Tessa." I am seven months old now, part border collie {?} with one brown eye one blue. I love the other dogs, even though they don't all love me. I adore "Bitsy" and we play alot. I LOVE the water and drink out of the hose, even though it splashes the other dogs. Mom says that I am a trial, penance for something she has done wrong. She says it is a good thing I am so adorable, even so, my other name is "Trouble" with a capital T.

For Hannah's story, click on "Hannah" under the Review list. "Hannah Bear" aka "Sweet Pea." I love to chase balls & nap on mom's bed. I don't trust anyone else but her. I am very sweet but if one of the others wants to start something I will finish it. I lived on the streets for a little while and have some street smarts. Mom calls me "clever girl."

Have you ever seen a mouse climb a tree ?

My dogs are lucky enough to get to live on a small piece of land, all fenced so that basically they live at the dog park. They of course love to scout and hunt, for which there are three codes. Yellow is, I have flushed something but can't find it. Red is, I have something, but mom is coming to save it. And blue is well.... for whom the bell tolls, followed with a solemn and proper burial.
The other morning as I filled the bird feeders, which hang in a tree in front of my house, the dogs were at code yellow. Frantically sniffing, looking about, for what I didn't know, until something caught my eye. Right in front of me not two feet away, was the intended victim. A gray mouse, carefully working his way up the trunk of the tree. I could only smile, the dogs in a whirl of searching, while in quiet calm the little mouse was carefully picking his way to safety up the tree. He disappeared before I could get my camera to offer photographic proof. So I have left you with the " I know you're up there " photo of Luna and that ever elusive squirrel.

Spanish cowgirl

This wonderful vintage image has just been added to my collection. Isn't she grand? She was a circus cowgirl. The horse's name is Silver. Watch for her to star on a jewelry piece along with another spanish cowgirl or two, very soon! This puts me in the mood for mexican food, so I thought I would share my own personal {easy} salsa recipe. For a great homemade flour tortilla recipe visit The Homesick Texan blog at:
http://homesicktexan.blogspot.com/

My salsa is made in a blender with two cans Rotel diced tomatoes and green chiles, { replace one with tomatoes & habaneros if you dare !} juice of one small lime, a few pickled jalapeno slices, the jar kind, fresh onion to taste, garlic powder to taste, and a sprinkle or two of oregano. You can use fresh garlic in place of powder, I never measure so make it to your taste. You can also add a pinch of cilantro if you wish. Salt to taste, I usually add until just the very top layer looks frosty. Pulse a few times, done. This does have some heat to it so don't overdue. I eat tons of it as I am not as sensitive to the hotness. To make with less heat, use plain diced tomatoes, and lose the jalapenos. Always better if it sets overnite to meld the flavors. Great on taco salad or just with chips!
