Make a memory

After a few weeks of seeing many beloved pet losses from blogger friends, I thought I would share something I did when I lost "Sophie." I'll have to tell Sophie's story sometime, it is a sweet and interesting one. I'm starting to measure my life in dogs.
A little time after Sophie was gone, I took an old frame, used acrylic paint and sponge painted it in a plummy, rose copper mix. I printed a photo of her in a sepia tone, and choose a neutral mat. Taking a fine point art pen, {easy to find, just use a scrapbooking pen} I wrote around the mat, all the things that were "so Sophie." Using a colored pencil I added a little accent color around the writing. I display mine on an easel. It is a sweet and reflective way to remember a pet or anyone. Just wait until some time passes so you can do it in joy.

    That is such a sweet and wonderful idea! And I love the phrase "I'm starting to measure my life in dogs" ! I think some people are lucky that they CAN do that :)

    Beautiful frame - when I lost one of my old cats 2 yrs ago I made a plaque with a stamped and colored image of both my old cats on it and put a halo over the one I just lost - unfortunatly it looks like I may be adding the other halo sometime soon (my other old girl is having transient strokes - she is over 18 years old and I will miss her dearly...)

    (I did a tiny 2"x5 little scrapbook for my friend Karen when her beloved dog, Luther passed on.
    It was small so she could take it with her in her purse/overnite etc..)

" Well behaved women rarely make history." *** Her grave as it is today *** I made the trip to Eufaula Oklahoma a couple of weeks ago for a family get together. I was going to visit the grave site of Belle Starr on this trip, but read up on the burial location before going. The site is rather run down, on private property and on a dead end road. You have to rustle up the owners and tramp through an unkempt weedy trail. The original stone has been removed or is gone from what I understand, so I decided not to go. I find this disheartening, that a well known historical figure, albeit outlaw, from the old west does not have a more revered grave site. Amarillo by afternoon.....

Do you ever, on the spur of the moment hop in your vehicle and head to parts unknown ? This past Saturday my girlfriend and I did just that and headed west to Amarillo Texas. Neither of us knew what was there, and upon arriving decided "nothing" was. We looked for the old part of Amarillo, but just found the undesirable part of Amarillo. We were just about to turn around and head back home. We were hungry and a bit disappointed. We saw two policeman talking beside their vehicles so we pulled up and asked them where the "coolest " place in Amarillo was.
